No more posts

As you can tell I haven't posted on this blog in ages. I have decided not to keep it updated at this time. However, I still get regular hits on some of the articles, so I'll leave the blog up for reference sake.

If you wish to contact me, feel free to do so via email at pstremble@gmail.com.

Thank you

Learning to use my Nikon D40

In the past few weeks I've been snapping photos like crazy! I think one of the best ways to learn about my camera is to just play, play, play. Trying out all the different settings and features and trying to read as much as I possibly can to learn the technical side of things has helped me become more comfortable with my camera.

If you'd like to check out some of my most recent photos, I set up a Flickr account and posted some of my favorites there. Here's the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pwsammy/

With all these new pictures, I'll have a LOT of scrapbooking to catch up in the coming months.

To the commenter on my last post (fawlyn) - thank you for the link. I discovered Ken Rockwell's website a week or so ago and have been reading as much as I can. The User Guide for the D40 is exceptionally well written and I plan to read it again this week. For anyone else interested in checking out his website it's: www.kenrockwell.com

Talk to you later.

I've been tagged!

I've been tagged by Becky! Thanks for picking me...

Here are the rules:

1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.

2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. ***IF you have already done your middle name than do the State that you live in with new adjectives!*****

3. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts. ***Or state if you have already been tagged before!***

4. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag.

5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

----------------------
My middle name is Sue.

S - Sweet. I keep trying to tell everyone that I'm sweet and innocent. Why won't anyone believe me?

U - Uber-Geek. If it has to do with technology, I'm going to love it. Just got a new laptop, a new digital SLR camera, my phone is a Treo 650 with a ton of cool programs on it and just bought a magazine about digital crafting. Plus I'm in charge of all IT requests and work orders at my day-job. Guess I'm just a geek.

E - Enthusiastic. I've been working really hard lately to inject enthusiasm and fun into my life. I'm playing more and working less.

---------------------
In return, I'm tagging:

1. Amy Chomas, user name Amy Chomas
2. Nicole of Nicole Barczak Photography
3. Sherril of Accent Albums

Playing with my New Nikon D40 Camera

I know, I know, I know... I've been away for a long time. Sometimes life just moves so fast that it's hard to keep up with everything.

I bought a new camera - a Nikon D40 - and have been playing around with it lately. My sister is getting married next month and has asked me to take photos throughout the day. So I need to practice. I took a short walk in the park today at lunch and got a few shots of a Pokeweek plant. Afterward I found out that it is highly poisonous to humans... so don't eat those berries! But the plant sure if beautiful!

Father’s Day Tribute

My dad is more than just a dad. He’s a son, husband, brother, father, grandfather and holds a special place in the hearts of many. He’s loving and faithful, funny and playful, strong and helpful. My dad is an amazing man who loves unconditionally and will do anything for his family.

This Father’s Day I am creating a mini scrapbook album for him that pays tribute to the many different things I love about him. He’s a pretty special guy. It’s the least I can do to remind him how much he means.

An Altered Address Book

Scrapbooking isn’t limited to just creating scrapbook pages and layouts. We scrapbookers love getting my hands into other projects as well.

I recently completed this altered address book. It started life as a regular old 3-ring binder but underwent a transformation into a beautiful with coordinating alphabetic dividers inside. Using a coordinating line of My Mind’s Eye papers, I created a layered effect and distressed the edges with Ranger Inks. This project was also my first chance of using the Mini Fastenater to attach each of the alpha tabs to the dividers. What an awesome little tool!

I also had the chance to use the Close to My Heart Acrylix Alpha Stamp set. What a dream this was! Each divider tab in this address book is stamped with a letter of the alphabet from this set and also a range of miscellaneous words and sentiments that start with that letter. For instance, the “a” set includes words like “adorable” and “amazing.”

The pictures you see here are of the address book I created for a client. If you’d like one of your own, I’m taking orders!

A weekend of scrapbooking

Last weekend I spent 3 days at a Scrapbook Retreat. Yes, you read that correctly --- I went on vacation to scrapbook. And I had a blast too!

Last spring I attended the Mega Meet Convention with some friends. They invited me to the Friday night crop and talked me into entering a scrapbook page into the Page Contest. There were at least a hundred entries (maybe more) and all the attendees at the crop were invited to vote for their favorite page. And guess who won?! Yes, it was me. And they even took this horrible picture of me holding the winning layout. Please note that the picture was taken at about 11:00 p.m. after a long day at work, then shopping at the convention, then scrapbooking at the crop --- and let’s not mention the Diet Coke spill down the front of my shirt. LOL!

So anyway, the prize for that Page Contest was an all-expense paid weekend at a Scrapbook Retreat in Spider Lake (near Traverse City, Michigan).

I arrived early Friday afternoon and scrapped for about 30 hours total throughout the weekend. I didn’t get much sleep, but that was to be expected. The new chef’s this year were amazing and each and every meal was delicious! And even though I arrived not knowing any of the other attendees, I left with some new scrapping buddies.

It took me several days to recover from the long weekend. I just needed to take a few days away from my regular scrapping routine at home. But I’m back in my groove now and ready to get back to scrapbooking like normal.

As soon as I take pictures of some of the projects I worked on last weekend, I’ll share them here.

Talk to you soon,
Pam
